Book Review: Five Feet Apart by Rachel Lippincott
Five feet apart is a book by Rachael Lipincott with Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis it deals with the topic of cystic fibrosis which is a serious chronicle illness. Our main character is Stella Grant who has been living in and out of the hospital since the age of six. The book starts off with her and her high school friends packing to go to Cabo. Unfortunately Stella is unable to go with her friends and the rest of the school on this adventure and is confined to the walls of the hospital. Will is the boy who is new to the hospital. He has been all over the world to a thousand different hospitals unable to explore the outside world. At the start of the book they have to things in common their pain of an illness and a thirst to go on an adventure somewhere they are able to be themselves without the CF label.
Will is much more free he has given up on his treatments and following his regime and is soon turning eighteen which to him means freedom from his mum trying to control his life and find a cure. All will wants to do is live before he dies.
Stella is a little OCD and a control freak who likes to do things by the book and feels satisfied by ticking items off of her to do list. Stella Grant likes to be in control and Stella is just the thing he needs to keep him grounded and most of all alive. Throughout the story their bond gets stronger but there is only one problem. The closer they get the more they have to pull away from each other. Because those who have CF have to stay away from each other six feet apart to be exact. Stella can't get too close to will because it just might kill her. Will has something called B cepacia which makes him more dangerous than most Cf patients.
I read through this laughing and crying it is one of my favorite books that I have read this year. And I think it will capture the hearts of everyone that reads it. It spreads light on what it means to live and love before it's too late. Because who knows when we may take our last breath. It could be today or tomorrow. But no matter how short of a life we have left it'll always be too short so why not live to the absolute fullest? It also shows what it is like to both live with cystic fibrosis and those who live with someone who dose.
I would like to give this book a five out of five stars one for the characters two for the plot three for the writing four for the quotes and five for spreading awareness of cystic fibrosis to everyone everywhere. That's it from me so stay tuned for my next review and I recommend you add this to your already long pile of TBR books.
